Honda is all set to update the Rebel 500 soon as patent images of the upcoming version have been leaked online. The pictures reveal a tweaked subframe which supports a single-piece seat as opposed to the split seat setup in the current model.
The pillion seat in the current model is mounted on the rear fender whereas it is supported on the subframe itself in the updated version. Also, the subframe appears to be versatile enough to support either a pillion seat or a luggage rack. It is likely that Honda will offer the luggage rack as an option for those who’d like to tour.
Another notable change is that the instrument cluster has been moved forward, ahead of the handlebar clamp. This allows some space to position the key slot which in the current-gen model is located below the steering head. The new key slot positioning is pretty conventional and will be a lot more convenient than the old-school setup. The updated model also appears to be equipped with an LED projector headlamp, and there’s a small scoop on the side body panel which looks purely cosmetic.

Since the updated model is just at the patent stage, expect Honda to launch the new Rebel only by mid-2020. At present, the Rebel 500 costs GBP 5,699 (around Rs 5.14 lakh). Since the updates are relatively minor, expect a price bump of around GBP 300 (around Rs 27,000) over the current price.
